Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission, previously known as the Ministry of Energy and Electricity, was established through an executive order on 7th August 2019 as the apex organ for policy formulation, drafting, and modification of all electricity bills, laws & regulations to ensure the steady provision of efficient and affordable electricity supply through Public Private Partnership (PPP) in line with global best practices.
The Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (EDERC) is the regulatory authority responsible for overseeing and regulating the electricity sector in Edo State, Nigeria. Established under the regulatory framework provided by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), EDERC is committed to ensuring fair practices, reliability, and sustainability in the provision of electricity services.
To protect the interests of electricity consumers by ensuring fair and transparent practices

Promoting competition and investment in the electricity sector to improve service delivery and expand access to electricity.
Facilitating the development of a reliable and efficient electricity supply system in Edo State.
Enforcing compliance with regulatory requirements and standards to maintain industry integrity and public trust.
Issuing licenses and permits to electricity companies.
Setting electricity tariffs and reviewing them periodically to reflect market conditions and cost factors.
Monitoring the performance of electricity companies and conducting audits and inspections to assess compliance with regulations and standards.
Resolving disputes and complaints between consumers and electricity companies through mediation, arbitration, and regulatory interventions.
Engaging with stakeholders through consultations, public hearings, and outreach programs to promote transparency, participation, and accountability in the electricity sector.
