Who We Are

We are the Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (EDERC), established to oversee and regulate the electricity sector within Edo State, Nigeria. Our mandate is to ensure fair practices, reliability, and sustainability in the provision of electricity services to the people of Edo State. The Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission formulates policies, drafts, and modifies electricity bills, laws & regulations guiding the electricity market in the state.

EDO STATE ELECTRICITY REGULATORY COMMISSION (ERC)

The Organisation was created out of the defunct Ministry of Energy & Water Resources and the Ministry of Infrastructure to enable the State to effectively execute the Electrify Edo Project, manage the traffic lights systems in the state, and regulate the local electricity. The Ministry was renamed in 2022 to Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

EDERC operates under the regulatory framework provided by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and is committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the electricity industry. We work closely with stakeholders, including consumers, distribution companies, and government agencies, to achieve our objectives.

Vision

Our vision is to be a leading regulatory authority in Nigeria, recognized for our commitment to excellence, innovation, and integrity in regulating the electricity sector for the benefit of all stakeholders.
We also ensure the supply of constant and affordable power for both domestic and commercial users in Edo State through regulation of the local electricity and energy sector.

Mission

Our mission is to ensure the provision of adequate, efficient, affordable, and steady electricity supply through Public Private Partnerships (PPP) in line with global trends to enhance economic activities in the state and improve the overall socio-economic lives and well-being of the citizens.

Our Objectives

Regulate the electricity sector in Edo State through policy formulation, drafting, and modification of all electricity bills, laws & regulations.

Execute the Lightup Edo Project through the provision of streetlights and traffic lights.

Engagement of energy/power investors and stakeholders to attract investors in the Edo State energy sector.

What We Do

Issuing licenses and permits to electricity companies.

Setting electricity tariffs and reviewing them periodically.

Monitoring the performance of electricity companies and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Conducting audits and inspections to assess the quality and safety of electricity services.

Resolving disputes and complaints through mediation and arbitration.
